My Mindfulness

Mindfulness - “A mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.”

I consistently see people posting on social media about meditation and mindfulness along with how they achieve these practices. Most are a long run, yoga, or a deep breathing exercise but I feel most people are losing out on a major important meditation/mindfulness practice; enjoying and exploring the outdoors.

I feel the last couple years, I’ve found my escape from life or work through activities such as fishing, hiking, kayaking, hunting, etc.  It’s during these activities that I had discovered my most peaceful state.  With everything going on in this crazy world right now, mental health and well-being is priority number one. If times are tough or things aren’t going right, a simple afternoon hike clears the mind and helps cleanse the soul for me!  These outdoor activities are my ultimate balancer!

For myself, the babbling of a creek and songs of spring time birds is my breath of fresh air. There are many outdoor and nature activities that all people can enjoy, you just have to find your favorites.

This is my mindfulness!

What’s yours?
